The Volckening Collection

The Volckening Collection includes more than 300 quilts from the 18th century to the 21st century. Located in Portland, Oregon, the diverse collection is known for its significant group of New York Beauty quilts.  This group of quilts was featured in Quilters Newsletter (2012), Quiltmania (2014), and American Quilter (2014); and exhibited at the Benton County Museum (2011) and San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles (2013). The New York Beauty quilts are also the subject of a new book, “New York Beauty, Quilts from the Volckening Collection” (2015) published by Quiltmania in France.

The 1970s quilts were featured in American Quilter (2012), Generation Q (2013), and Quilters Newsletter (2015); 20 of them were exhibited at QuiltCon 2015. Select objects from the collection are now included in permanent collections at the DAR Museum, International Quilt Study Center & Museum, Michigan State University Museum and Latimer Quilt & Textile Center.
